IMPA, jointly with the Initiative for Policy Dialogue (IPD) at Columbia University, hosted a one-day academic symposium to explore new tax policy strategies in light of the upcoming expiration of the TCJA provisions in 2025. This workshop was held at Columbia University on Friday, May 2, 2025.
Participants in the symposium informally discussed the major tax proposals in the new administration and their impacts on our economy and distribution of income. The symposium l consisted of three panels:
- Rethinking Progressive Tax Policy: Elizabeth Pancotti (Groundwork Collaborative) and Joseph Stiglitz (Columbia University, IPD)
- International Taxation: Panelists were Alan Auerbach (University of California, Berkeley), Jayati Ghosh (University of Massachusetts Amherst), Zorka Milin (FACT Coalition); Moderator: Nicholas Lusiani
- Corporate Taxation Panelists were Reuven Avi-Yonah (University of Michigan), Patrick Kennedy (University of California, Los Angeles), Joseph Stiglitz (Columbia University; Initiative for Policy Dialogue), Owen Zidar (Princeton University); Moderator: Ignacio González (American University, IMPA)
- Individual Taxation Panelists were David Kamin (New York University), Zachary Liscow (Yale Law School), Elena Patel (University of Utah), Max Risch (Carnegie Mellon University); Moderator: Kitty Richards (Groundwork Collaborative)
